A real Christmas tree this year is going to cost more thanks to a new “fee” imposed by the Obama administration to fund marketing of real Christmas trees. Just as the government pushes milk and meat the new program proposes to push real Christmas trees in support of the real Christmas tree industry in the United States.
The average cost of a tree will rise 15 cents thanks to the surcharge imposed by the program.
Some media outlets will continue to politicize this issue, however. Already, Breitbart.com is hailing the the story as a “big government” tax increase.
First proposed in 2011 the issue quickly became a salvo in the War on Christmas.
But the issue died when it was apparently supported widely within the Christmas tree industry and passage of the final bill last February hardly got any notice.
